Transplant Foundation takes part in the 3rd Annual "Kids Need The Darndest Things" Event
On Sunday, April 11th, transplant children across South Florida had the opportunity to sharpen their bear-making skills and take part in the 3rd annual Build-A-Bear Workshop event sponsored by the Transplant Foundation.
The event was created by Laura Kowalczyk, a 15-year post op kidney recipient who was inspired by Dyman Hicks courage. Dyman is a young child of nine who lost her kidney to rejection and currently undergoes dialysis treatments on a weekly basis. Inspired by Dyman's bravery, Laura set into motion this opportunity to provide Dyman and other dialysis patients with a day to just be kids. She contacted Build-A-Bear Workshop to make this event a reality and the Transplant Foundation soon after became a partner in this wonderful event.
The girls of Knots of Hope joined in the efforts and helped raise funds to make this day possible. 100 transplant kids created their customized stuffed animal with clothes and accessories. Knots of Hope are a community-service organization geared to raising funds and awareness for the Transplant Foundation. "Knots of Hope are a wonderful group of girls who have contributed and continue to contribute their time and tenderness," said Melissa Chediak-Wetzel, Director of Development for the Transplant Foundation. "The children love having the girls around and were so excited to receive matching friendship bracelets that the Knots of Hope had created for each child and their teddy."
Thank you to all who sponsored a child for the Annual Kids Need the Darndest Things event. |
