Ilene Lieberman’s Broward/Palm Beach Golf Classic: 5 Great Years

In five short years, the Ilene Lieberman Broward/Palm Beach Golf Classic has proved itself as a steadfast fundraising machine for the Transplant Foundation. So it is with no surprise there was much excitement for this year’s event on May 21st at Woodlands Country Club in Tamarac.

This year’s golfers enjoyed a sit down lunch and putting practice before the shotgun start. Afterward, they enjoyed cocktail and dinner reception with silent auction and trophy presentation with the event’s namesake Commissioner Ilene Lieberman and committee chair Jack Talabisco.

The top three winning teams were given trophies and they were:

1st Place: Team Barbuto, Score:54
Peter Barbuto, RC Courtney, John Swaner, Marty Stanowich

2nd Place: Team DiPompeo, Matching Card Score: 57
John DiPompeo, Richard Dzicek, Dave McCaffrey, John Sammet

3rd Place: Team IDI, Matching Card Score: 57
Berny Abraimi, Joe Goss, Austin Jones, Greg Toepp

"Despite a challenging economy, we were so pleased to have raised nearly $40,000,” noted Eli Compton, Executive Director of the Transplant Foundation. “Proceeds go right back to our tri-fold mission of patient service, community education and funding transplant research.”

The grand total of funds raised in the event’s short tenure equal $260,000.

“Each year we strive to provide a high-caliber tournament that golfers, sponsors, and volunteers will be proud to have participated in,” said Melissa Chediak Wetzel, Director of Development of the Transplant Foundation. “We are fortunate to have a dedicated group of sponsors and volunteers engaged to ensure the success of this event.”
